Statement
This piece was a study done with two of my favorite childhood dolls. I want people to see the contrasting elements of distance and closeness, represented by the reaching out of one doll to another and the emptiness of the background, as it relates to the experience of time and physical distance as compounding elements of loneliness and nostalgia. I used both marker and graphite to create a disconnect between the subjects and the background, highlighting their separation as a contrast. I think this drawing is both relevant to the broader idea of bittersweet childhood nostalgia as well as a reflection of the isolation imposed currently by the Corona virus.
