Statement
My biggest inspiration is watching the sun set. The colors are like nothing else in the world, and trying to capture those feelings on paper is what brings me joy. These two pieces are both reimaginations of a vibrant sunset over water. The first piece, Pixelated I, was created with Perler beads in bright colors, while the second work was created with watercolors in darker hues. The first project introduced the idea of pixelation in an otherwise soft and blended landscape, and that idea carried over into Pixelated II. I included squares, or pixels, of solid color among the swirling colors of the sky and waves. I was fascinated by exploring the concept of “opposite sides of the same coin,” and I enjoyed tying the two pieces together.
