ART NOW S20 Drawing

Statement
My inspiration for this piece were the people you see – they’re just some of the students that made Butler feel like a place that I could continue my college career at. I was really looking for a sign that could help me make the “right” choice and these people reminded me that a place is made more special by the people. What makes this piece meaningful to me was the process. This class taught me the value in being the translator, and I wanted to practice drawing from observation. I sketched my subjects while we chatted, simplified these drawings onto tracing paper, and then transferred them to this page. The background is watercolor and the faces are finished with pen. I chose this color pallet because it is light, yet engaging. I hope the viewer reflects on their own friendships and the people that made a difference in their life.
