Statement
This piece is inspired by a quote from my favorite book, I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. The quote surrounds the outside of the piece, winding around the faces in the center. This quote focuses on how a person is made up of a lot of people, hence the multiple faces. The faces overlap to represent how within a singular person, there can be multiple different selves. The blue and red provide a contrast and additionally lend to the idea of multiple selves and the different characteristics, personalities, and emotions that everyone holds. I hope that through this piece there is a common connection and understanding that people are not one dimensional or stagnant in their personalities, but that people are constantly evolving and developing new versions of themselves. The work is made with watercolor and ink, the ink utilized for definition on the facial features as well as the quote.
