Statement
An eccedentesiast is someone who hides their pain through a smile. When people first look at this image, without knowing what the title means, they may see this painting as a portrayal of a happy subject. However, upon understanding the title they realize that this is in fact not a happy piece of art. Additionally, I tried to give visual information about the true nature of this piece by the butterflies. The only butterfly touching the subject has colors that are sickly, implying something is not right. The image literally represents hiding (covering ones face and eyes) behind a smile (the smile being the central piece of the image that automatically stands out).
