LIMITED EDITION
For my Thesis project, I knew I wanted to implement both my passion for graphic design and also my love for painting. These lighter packs started out as a silly idea, but once I began the process, I realized that it was very versatile and perfect for what I wanted to create conceptually.
The original idea for my “Limited Edition” lighter series was to create an advertisement campaign, completely digitally. Once I created my sketches, I knew I wanted to bring them to life, and what better way to do that than hand painting lighters. I used a spray paint primer base on all of the lighters, then went in with acrylic paint and Sharpie to create the design, and finally finished them off with Mod Podge to add a glossy finish and prevent chipping. Painting on such small surfaces challenged me to conceptualize and simplify designs so that they would have the most polished look possible. One of my favorite features about some of these lighters is that they change color with heat. Go ahead and pick up any of the lights that have purple on them. Hold it in your hand and allow your body heat to change the purple to an electric pink.
These “Limited Edition” lighters are for those that walk to the beat of their own drum. They are collectors items. Buying the whole pack is more expensive but purchasing the Solo is a mystery and gives incentive to buy more in order to collect the whole pack. With a container that doubles as a rolling tray, it’s pretty hard to resist.
